Japanese techno icon Fumiya Tanaka resurfaced with a frustrating album of highly original, dense, polyrhythmic computer music that’s almost brilliant but ends up getting bogged down in repetition. Techno is based on loops, yet it’s the progression through different combinations of loops that holds your interest. Much of the music here builds up to its peak early and then stays there. Still, nothing else really sounds like this right now: broken-down breakbeats collide with tribal house rhythms and glitch techno textures.
