It seems as though the screams and laments of weepy, angsty teenagers aren't just a local phenomenon. Way across the pond in South Wales, Funeral for a Friend have been playing an emotionally charged mix of punk and metal for a couple of years now, but just like over here, it tends to get old pretty fast. With a sound somewhere between Iron Maiden and more contemporary acts like Thursday, Funeral blend predictable hard-edged pop hooks with the occasionally interesting metal riff. The result is a blunt and manipulative tug at the heartstrings, with your pretty standard fare of heartbreak and rejection. Having some of the sappiest and most derivative lyrics this side of anywhere sure doesn't help the cause.
