Much respect to L.A.-based Stones Throw artist/producer Georgia Anne Muldrow, whose 2006 debut LP, Olesi: Fragments Of An Earth, breathed fresh, deranged air into the soul genre. Here, Muldrow, whose voice has improved noticeably in the last year, connects creatively with labelmate, special friend and Madlib’s favourite mic man Dudley Perkins for G&D.
Oddly enough, the indie hiphop soul supercouple’s record isn’t coming out on Stones Throw. Maybe Egon just wasn’t feeling all the wobbly West Coast synth bass lines, as conducted by Muldrow, harmonizing, weird medieval comedy skits and ethereal lyrics. But that’s probably not right, as this album seems consciously more accessible than Olesi.
