What do you do when you're an aging Can-rocker whose heyday was 25 years ago? First off, you gotta try putting out a quasi-classical album, and if that doesn't work, just fucking re-record your old songs, like Black Cars, and throw in some new material, too. That way, if people don't like the new stuff, they can just skip through till they go, "Oh yeahhh, I remember this one!" Seriously, though, Gino Vannelli's been around the block enough times to know what makes his fans happy: pure, unadulterated, adult contemporary, radio-friendly, easy-listening pop. And you know what? He does it quite well. If you're into this kind of thing, Days will sate your ravenous hunger for light, inoffensive rock. Just don't play it around your kids or they'll think you're a total square.
Gino Vannelli plays the Mod Club Tuesday (February 7).
