The first thing you notice about Glass Casket is that drummer Blake Richardson kicks ass with blazing complexity, incredible timing and lightning-fast rhythms. There's a lot of stuff going on here - death metal, thrash and hardcore, with nods to the likes of the Dillinger Escape Plan. Pounding bass lines meld with convoluted guitar riffs, switching to calm melodies and back in the blink of an eye. Not my thing, but it's pretty fierce, and thrashcore fans may fall in love. I could do without Adam Cody's growling vocals from hell that don't let up till track 8, when it goes all emo on your ass for about 20 seconds. Seems like they throw in the little melodic vocal break to prove they could kind of sing if they really wanted to. Too bad they don't want to. Glass Casket play the Kathedral Friday (July 30).
