God Bless The Go-Gos

Rating: NNN

Recruiting Fort Apache dandies Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie to produce a set of brand new songs was a shrewd move on the part of the reunited Go-Gos, giving them cred with the kids (as does a song co-written by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong) while coaxing the most from their punchy, sunshiny pop. So there’s little to fault in God Bless The Go-Gos — the gals sound like they’re having a blast, the writing is arch but catchy, and goddamn if they don’t look hot, though possibly well-preserved in that California way. As chirpy and upbeat as you’d expect.
