GODSMACK

GODSMACK Faceless (Republic/Universal) Rating: NN Rating: NN

Godsmack’s latest barrage of riff-heavy metal is exactly what fans have probably come to expect, a stale rehash of doom, gloom and whining disguised with a growl. Tunes like Make Me Believe and Releasing The Demons aren’t going to appeal to anyone but greasy, self-indulgent, rebellious teens fascinated with their dark sides, and really stunted adults. I mean, come on — cheer up, dudes. “Just take me away from this hell I’ve created”? Aren’t you being a bit melodramatic? Sonically, most of this is so stale you could break a tooth on it. Toward the end, Godsmack move more into mellow ethereal turf as singer Sully Erna pines for “serenity.” Well, geez, maybe if you stopped complaining so much, you’d find some peace.
