If ever an adult needed Ritalin, Eugene Hutz is that adult. Rising out of their Ukrainian Gypsy roots, Gogol pile on the rock, punk, metal, reggae and ska, driven by mad percussion and Hutz's insane lyrical content, which ranges from nonsensical to funny to angry and sad and combinations thereof. Add wacky-accented vocals backed by insane violin, crazy accordion, guitars that switch from a full-on onslaught to fingerpicked acoustic, and a bit of electronics. These guys have almost too much talent for their own good, and they cram so much into this bitch, it can get wildly annoying. At the same time you want to stomp yer feet and dance in a big circle. Should be an amazing live show.
Gogol Bordello play the Drake Underground Wednesday (February 15).
