Album reviews Music

Gomez

Rating: NN

Between this and their last two albums, Gomez have tried urban-angsty folk, crooning pop rock and indie blues. In keeping with the latest trend – wait for it: psychedelia – Gomez have taken their sound spiralling to a mind-expanding new place. They’re far from the best purveyors of this vogue, and for all the gusto they bring to it on Split The Difference, the music frequently sounds like grunge, right down to the patented Eddie Vedder vocal swagger. Even their most successful psych gestures only rise to the level of Sloan at their least inspired.
