Grady, fronted by ex-Big Sugar singer/axe-man Gordie Johnson, gives us one of the worst album titles in recent history. Though Johnson's a talented player who brings his blues-rock expertise, Shady is packed with cheesy and contrived songwriting that borrows heavily from the blues tradition, from the Delta through Led Zeppelin. These guys know their stuff, but most of the songs ramble pointlessly, becoming wank-fests for Johnson's slide guitar and never delivering anything truly compelling or original. Kinda like the band from that Patrick Swayze movie Roadhouse, but, like, more aggressive.
Grady plays the Mod Club Wednesday (June 15).
