If the writing on the wall wasn't already clear enough for the CD business, New West's simultaneous separate release of Guided By Voices Live From Austin, TX as a 30-track double CD and 30-track live DVD (selling for $15.99 and $19.99 respectively on amazon.ca) should drive the point home that the audio disc is becoming redundant.
What Guided by Voices fan wouldn't pay the extra four bucks to see his or her favourite songs performed live on the Austin City Limits soundstage by a spaz-dancing Bob Pollard and his wobbly crew during their final go-round of 2004?
Many of the shoulda-been hits are here (Teenage FBI and Glad Girls), along with crowd-pleasing classics like Game Of Pricks, My Impression Now, Gold Star For Robot Boy and Everybody Thinks I'm A Raincloud.
And the good thing about GBV doing an Austin City Limits recording (apart from the excellent sound mix) is that the session was done early enough in the day so that our Dayton delinquents couldn't get too lit to karate-kick out the jams.
A swell final bow, but do yourself a favour and spring for the DVD.
