Between The Beautifuls (Isadora)

Rating: NNN

Between The Beautifuls is an album of cheery straightforward pop/rock executed with a controlled, light touch. Unfortunately, that’s about all it is, and much of it blurs into a pleasant but bland wash.

Things perk up a bit with Pomegranate Daffodil, which sounds like he actually broke a sweat recording. It’s like he wanted to make an album of sensitive, introspective roots pop, but it’s the quirky rock songs he actually does best. The album closes with a bonus remix of Piano Blink that hints at how interesting this could have been had he let someone more imaginative produce the rest of the album.
