The guys in Head Automatica have a message they want to get across to everyone loud and clear: don’t be afraid to love your pop music! Which is exactly what they do on the follow-up to the electro-tinged and slightly drab Decadence. Along with a witty little play on words, this is an album consisting almost entirely of what you’d consider straight-up, heart-on-your-sleeve, totally rockin’ pop music. And maybe, yeah, the band loves the idea of real pop, and atop all the roaring organs and wailing choruses is a genuine appreciation for an all-too-misunderstood genre, but they really have to get past the whole sounding-exactly-like-Elvis Costello and the Attractions thing to make a grand impact.
