HERALD NIX

Anyone who has driven through the grey, foggy interior of British Columbia will probably take a shine to Herald Nix, a native of Salmon Arm. He affectingly captures the quaint, melancholy charm of small-town BC on Soul Of A Kiss. Most songs are stripped bare, with only Nix’s bluesy slide guitar and wobbly howl over brush drums. On the title track, Nix doubles up the guitars and adds a bass line to propel its lady-trouble lyrics, but on The Leland Hotel Fire he downshifts back into his preferred thumping, rhythmic guitar strums and weepy slide. Most tracks were recorded in Vancouver, but Hurry On and Tomorrow’s Another Day, which sound rawer, were cut in Nix’s desolate cabin on a BC mountain.
