HITZ EXPREZZ

HITZ EXPREZZ Playin Da Harsez (Huron Street Hunt Club) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Rec-room-dwelling hipster Hitz Exprezz makes low-budget techno for the trucker-cap set, with a vibe akin to watching late-night infomercial porn while getting crunk on malt liquor from the 7-Eleven. His stripped-down, squelchy shtick wavers between the pelvis-rattling minimalism of old-school Plastikman and the self-satisfied stylishness of Tiga’s nu-school mash-ups, but he never quite succeeds on either count. Tunes meander aimlessly, and only the full-fledged parodies (Crazy In Plunk is robo-R&B beyond Beyonc&eacute’s wildest dreams) work. You’re left with a greasy, oily sheen after listening to the disc, half-aroused by the dirty sex appeal but mostly disconcerted by the self-conscious irony Hitz Exprezz oozes.

Hitz Exprezz get crunk at Rancho Relaxo Saturday (February 21).
