Honey

honey (Elektra/Warner) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

The whole “Flashdance with a hiphop twist” premise behind this ready-for-DVD vehicle for Lil’ Romeo and Shawn Desman is obviously ridiculous, but the Honey soundtrack isn’t nearly as terrible as you’d expect. Along with party starters like Sean Paul’s Gimme The Light and Erick Sermon’s React, there’s Missy Elliott’s Hurt Sumthin and Mark Ronson’s Ghostface Killah collabo Ooh Wee, which ingeniously flips Boney M’s version of Bobby Hebb’s Sunny. The real killer here is Tweet’s Thugman, a sick trick written and produced for club commotion by Ms. Elliott. Selectas should grab the white-label 12-inch of Thugman currently making the rounds.
