For the past couple years, enigmatic sad sacks Hood have slowly and quietly been creeping along an evolutionary path toward a more programmed electro-acoustic concept, analogous to 4Hero and Two Banks of Four, only Hood’s sound is completely devoid of any club culture influence. Outside Closer finds our lads dabbling with flute, clarinet, trumpet, violins, piano and even a poorly employed Robert Wyatt sample that’s more of a winking aside to their socks ‘n’ sandals following than a musical triumph. As expected, it all comes covered in the shroud of melancholy that’s become their security blanket.
Hood skulks into the Drake Tuesday (March 15).
