Hostage Life

Rating: NNNN

You know what’s really great (and I’m being serious here)? Young, angry bands that sound like they wanna kick you in the teeth, then spit beer in your eyes before rocking the pants offa everyone in the room, and that’s pretty much cuz you know they really give a shit about what they’re doing. I think it’s safe to say that Toronto’s Hostage Life is one of those bands. From the explosive 56-second opener, We Will Make You Crawl, the five-piece wraps up the Clash’s swagger with Rancid’s pulse and some classic Oi sing-alongs into a high-energy homage to everything that was (and is) right about punk. If the band keeps playing songs like these, they should be destined for bigger and better things.

Hostage Life play tonight (Thursday, June 8) at the Bovine as part of NXNE.
