Husky Rescue, the Finnish outfit now releasing their second album, specializes in a peculiar form of icy, trippy pop music that sounds at once alien and nostalgic. The vocals recall the ethereal, weirdo beauty of Kate Bush or the Cocteau Twins, and the music brings an experimental attitude to country- and folk-inspired melodies and arrangements. The pedal steel sounds a bit like a synth, the synth a bit like steel guitar. Jangly acoustic guitar arpeggios are gradually submerged under a wall of fuzz. It’s pretty music, with just enough edge to keep it challenging, and enough warmth to keep you coming back.
