I forgot how much I adore the late Ian Dury. Why, oh why isn’t he one of the most famous people in the world? He was brilliant, hilarious and witty, and his cockney accent was wildly charming. This is a re-release of Dury’s album of rock/punk/disco classics from 1977 that includes Razzle In My Pocket, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (which for some inexplicable reason are listed as bonus tracks even though they were on the original album), Sweet Gene Vincent and the bittersweet My Old Man. But wait! The bonus disc features demo and alternate versions of these and more, of which my favourite is the quirky Apples. You might be surprised to learn that the original version of Wake Up And Make Love With Me was pretty different. And the original lyrics are quite amusing. The bonus disc is almost the better one.
