Rating: NN
On Toronto folkie Ian North’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed Emptiful, the singer/songwriter once again showcases his penchant for vivid narratives and jazz, folk and blues arrangements. While Theory Of Your Life is definitely a pleasant listen with plenty of soothing melodies and masterful instrumentation, it doesn’t offer anything different from what other Canadian guitar slingers are peddling. Unfortunately, it offers a little less. As calming as the record is, it sorely lacks memorable hooks, leaving the search for life’s big question a little uneventful.
Ian North plays Wednesday (July 19) at the Rivoli.
