IKARA COLT

IKARA COLT Chat And Business (Epitaph) Rating: NNN

Ikara Colt join Sahara Hotnights at the Horseshoe April 3.

Rating: NNN

With so many contemporary groups latching on to the early 80s post-punk vibe and offering faint recreations of the Gang of Four, Wire, Au Pairs, Joy Division and ESG concepts, Ikara Colt naturally figured they should stake their claim to the Fall sound before someone else jacked it. Sadly, there is no Kicker Conspiracy or Totally Wired here, but fortunately for the London art college clique, most journalists assessing their performances and recordings don’t seem to be aware of what Mark E. Smith has been doing for the past two decades. If they were, there’d likely be far fewer gushing reviews of Chat And Business heralding it as a revolution in sound, and more people writing it off as a cheeky prank. But better a lame Fall redux than a spot-on Spandau Ballet.
