Album reviews Music

Impious

Rating: NNNN

Although their name and concept may seem overused, this is notably strong Swedish death thrash. The band pounds out non-stop, speedy, growly-voxed (except for a brief excursion into high-pitched squeals) mayhem over 10 tracks. Hellucinate doesn’t overstay its welcome or try to rewrite the rules for hard music that Wiccan priests laid out so many moons ago it just rocks quickly and with skill. Aside from closing track Suicide Park, which is more epic and pulverizing than it is fast, they maintain a blazing tempo throughout. One of the best Metal Blade releases in a while.
