Holy cow. Three, count ’em, three discs from Matthew Good, which is fantastic if you like Mr. Grumpypants. Suffice it to say, like any other artist anthology, it’s a complete waste of time if you couldn’t care less about him. The first disc is a collection of singles, and also features two new tracks. On disc two Good reworks nine old tunes into acoustic versions, which to my ears are draggy, wanky, whiny and generally annoying but may very well be manna to yours. It also features “loser anthems” (as opposed to all those “winner anthems”?) and “lo-fi B-Sides.” Disc three is a collection of videos – and surprisingly, there are a lot of them – with commentary. All this stuff will make serious Good fans very happy and the sheer quantity here is impressive.
Matthew Good plays the Phoenix Saturday (October 15).
