Vedder does well on this soundtrack. His heartfelt compassion for the film's doomed hero comes out in the acoustically structured, narrative-themed songs. There are a few numbers that get a touch too literal, like the society-condemning Society. But Vedder hits on the death-pondering End Of The Road, where he takes cues from Neil Young's remarkable guitar odyssey score to Dead Man, and on The Wolf, where Vedder howls wildly overtop of a funeral-organ sound. Great Anton Corbin photo on the CD back, too.
