James Taylor is not getting any cooler with age. In the first minutes of this DVD, Taylor's shown in soft light wandering the Massachusetts meadows, like cutaways from a Barbara Walters interview. The Berkshires, the location for this recorded performance, is picturesque, and the historic theatre is a lovely setting.
But for some reason Taylor wants to put on a variety show, so he projects slides, tells stories and brings out gag props. Just play your damn bittersweet folk already, and preferably nothing after 1979. And this could be the most milquetoast audience ever recorded on video. Some dude, just as Taylor hits the stage, actually yells out 'Go Red Sox!'
