JAMYZ BEE AND THE DEEP LOUNGE COALITION

JAMYZ BEE AND THE DEEP LOUNGE COALITION Sub Urban (Oglio) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

From the twisted mind of local lounge king Jaymz Bee comes this bizarre record, a set of urban radio hits rewritten as slinky bachelor-pad background music. It’s disturbing how well tracks like It Wasn’t Me and Love Don’t Cost A Thing translate into swanky bossa swing — the new versions sound authentic enough to make you forget Shaggy’s grating bark and J-Lo’s nasal drone — and the guest vocalists, who include torchy Patricia O’Callahan and Big Rude Jake, are bootyliciously groovin’. But, like retro-cool lava lamps and shag carpeting, the novelty soon wears off. Good for cocktail parties and as aural wallpaper for the oh-so-ironic set.
