Album reviews Music

Jeff Buckley

Rating: NNNNN

It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since Jeff Buckley’s Grace album appeared, so full of promise that the enormously talented young song poet sadly never lived to realize. Although Grace was seen as a commercial disaster in light of Nirvana’s mega-platinum success, Buckley’s entrancing debut has gone on to sell over 2 million copies and, unlike many of the recordings from the period, doesn’t sound at all dated today. But you still may need the Sony Legacy upgrade, which comes with an extra disc of rare outtakes, live recordings and promo-only tracks like the sought-after Forget Her and the hair-raising howl through Hank Williams’s Lost Highway. The set also comes packaged with a DVD boasting an expanded version of the revealing Making Of Grace documentary and five rarely shown video clips. They did it right.
