UK reissue imprint BBE teamed up with Jerome Derradji of Chicago’s Still Music for this two-CD collection of obscure soulful disco and uptempo classic R&B. The first disc is mixed by Derrajdi, while the second is made up of the full versions of the same tracks which makes for an excellent package. Collectors and DJs get the extended versions, and casual listeners get to hear the tracks mixed together as they would be in a club.
If you’re looking for a collection of disco’s more experimental moments, this isn’t it. However, if you’re interested in the larger picture of underground disco, this comp fills in the gaps quite nicely.
