JET

JET Dirty Sweet (Elektra/Warner) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Tipped as the next big thing from Down Under, Melbourne’s Jet sound like a more radio-friendly version of the Datsuns’ AC/DC riff rock redux on their debut EP – with the Kiwi interlopers’ T-Rex fixation replaced by a heavy-duty Stones jones. That’s probably why Mick and Keef hired them to open dates on their last Australian swing, but it hardly justifies Jet’s reported multi-million-dollar label deal. But, hey, it’s not my money.

Jet’s full-length is due in September, but you can get a preview of what’s in store when they make a low-key appearance at the El Mocambo Saturday (May 24).
