JILL CUNNIFF

Rating: NN

If I didn’t know better, I’d swear Jill Cunniff had crawled under a rock and refused to listen to any music since her old band, Luscious Jackson, split in 99. That can’t be the case, however, cuz she did oversee the prefabrication of electro-popsters the Cooler Kids a few years back. Remember them? Nah. Her solo debut, City Beach, picks up right where LJ left off, bouncing through boomboxilicious white-girl funk dance tracks about popsicles, candy and monogamy (really) that date themselves with triphop rhythms and a goddamned flute sample that stopped sounding fresh when you quit smoking dope in your parents’ basement while listening to Root Down on repeat.
