The fifth album in Frusciante’s unofficial six-album music therapy cycle, A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence comes in the wake of four albums of eccentric but accessibly pleasant angst rock. This time, Frusciante takes a different path, cobbling together a set of brittle electronica. The disc is in keeping with the explorative efforts of the 70s electro-aesthetes but delivers that angle with the tools of today’s studio technowizards. The result is an unusual and often startling blend of sensibilities, at once creaky urban folk and IDM.
