Unless you were regularly sifting through record-store singles bins during the early 90s, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's infrequently issued jukebox singles in generic sleeves distinguised by tiny red-and-white title strips may have slipped by unnoticed. That's unfortunate for the JSBX and everyone else, because those nondescript black vinyl releases contained some of the group's most unhinged, hilarious and exciting music.
Better late than never. Larry Hardy has put out a fully annotated Back From The Grave-inspired CD collection of Spencer's hard-hollering blue-bent rockers featuring a ghoulishly great sleeve homage to Tim Warren's fab garage punk reissue series. It makes you wonder what went wrong with Spencer afterwards.
