Sad? You’re in good company – and this company’s incorporated. This, Jonathan Inc.’s third release, is your archetypal regional (seaside White Rock, BC) indie pop/rock sensitive poetic outpouring. It’s got melancholic melodies, each acoustic guitar note strummed with the heavy hand caused by the dislocation and isolation of heartbreak, giving way to lyrics sung as tenderly as the words of a dying man. Consistently full of sorrow accented by occasional string accompaniment and barely there percussion, this record is Kleenex-soft, not to mention Kleenex-worthy until the end. After so much of this, it would be nice to hear Jonathan get pissed. Maybe he lost the rights to anger during the merger?
Jonathan Inc. play the Cameron House tonight (Thursday, June 3).
