Jordie Lane

Rating: NNN

Jordie Lane talks differently than he sings: his Aussie accent is clear and endearing in his banter, and mellows out to sound more Americana on his folky, historical and love-inspired songs. That’s apparent right away here when Lane addresses the Adelaide crowd before launching into new song Lost In You.

Chatter makes up a good chunk of the intimate live album, culminating in a meandering story about an Irish friend’s drunk brother that’s more than twice as long as any of the songs. Yet the focal point is Lane’s voice – which is rich and beautiful over his rhythmic, organic-sounding acoustic guitar, especially when he unplugs and goes off-mic.

I kept waiting for the concert to become great, but that didn’t happen I got the sense it was a typical show for Lane, but not necessarily his best. It’s a snapshot of an afternoon performance, complete with awkwardly hesitant audience participation on Black Diamond and heckling from the crowd.
