J.U.F.

Rating: NNNN

Oh, those freaky guys. J.U.F. stands for Jewish Ukrainian Freundschaft, a collective featuring members of New York Roma punks Gogol Bordello, Israeli ingenue Victoria Hanna and percussionist Tamir Muskat. While this record is primarily a DJ project for Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz, J.U.F. deliver a collection of wild, crazy dance tunes blending Roma, reggae, rai, disco, Balkan beat, punk and industrial sounds that take you all over the world. It’s frantic, obnoxious and irritating to the utmost while at the same time amazingly impressive, totally infectious and danceable to the point where you find your hips and feet moving all by themselves and you’re thinking, ‘What the hell is wrong with me? I’m dancing and I just can’t seem to stop.” Very strange.
