Junior Boys

Rating: NNNN

At first, this double-disc debut for the Domino label from Hamilton’s Junior Boys comes off as simplistic and unremarkable, with very predictable electro progressions (eight bars of this, then a new layer on the next eight bars, and so on). But on closer inspection, all the subtle dashes and nuances of this sincere indie dance record will push your brain into another setting, and you fall in love with it because it’s like being at a party with someone you don’t notice at first but end up having a four-hour conversation with later. In terms of integrity, this is a perkier M83, with a four-track-long bonus disc featuring a white-hot Manitoba remix. Junior Boys launch Last Exit at the Horseshoe Wednesday (September 22).
