Junior Senior D-D-Don't Don't Stop The Beat (Atlantic/Warner) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN
Like fellow Danish indie pop pair the Raveonettes, rambunctious duo Junior Senior have an affinity for chirpy 60s pop that shimmers through their dynamite debut disc. D-D-Don't Don't Stop The Beat explodes with spongy, effervescent hooks, jangly garage-pop guitars and a loopy funk backbone that lends itself to a no-holds-barred dance-athon. There's a big gay twist: instead of your typical girl-boy call-and-response, these dudes bridge the sexuality divide. So Mickey & Sylvia's "How do you call your loverboy?" becomes a back-and-forth about how Junior likes girls and Senior likes boys. Sounds kooky, but it works sorta like one of those supercool queer punk boys wearing a sparkly unicorn sweatshirt.
