KAITO Band Red (SpinArt) Rating: NNNN
Rating: NNNN
Kaito’s second studio album is full of the screeching ferocity that’s sorely missing from many so-called punk outfits. This Brit outfit’s songs border on the whimsical and are all the better for it. Lead singer Nikki Colk sounds a lot like X-Ray Spex’s Poly Styrene, while the other three work up a lo-fi storm that recalls early Pavement, Huggy Bear and Sonic Youth. Yet there’s an underlying melodic beauty amidst the mayhem. Kaito are joined by British Sea Power at the Horseshoe with Monday (March 8).
