Katy Rose Because I Can (V2) Rating: N
Mozart was a child prodigy. Michael Jackson was a child prodigy. Movie character Little Man Tate was a child prodigy. Sixteen-year-old Katy Rose's youthful earnestness on her debut album would be prodigy-esque if she'd played all the instruments herself and written most elements of the fairly bland songs. As it stands, Rose seems to be mostly responsible for the lyrics, which are honest and shouldn't be picked on, but didn't need to be printed. It sets a disturbingly encouraging example for the billions of other teenagers writing angsty, "old soul," vague poetry. Oh, yeah - the songs don't veer far from a safe, bland pop/rock, which doesn't really fit Rose's image. Maybe next time.
