Whether you'll like the newest Keane offering depends largely on your appetite for melodrama. Every word out of wailing singer Tom Chaplin comes in the grandiose, dramatically dire fashion that demands you "feel" what he feels. Maybe that's why the East Sussex trio gets so many U2 and Coldplay comparisons: every song has to be a huge, powerful emotional statement, even when it's begging for radio playability like the admittedly catchy Is It Any Wonder? or Nothing In My Way. However, queasy-making tracks like the lacquered piano ballad Hamburg Song and Try Again are so wretchedly overwrought you may keel over from adult contemporary pain. Keane hit Edgefest Saturday (July 1) at the Molson Amphitheatre.
