Why sweet-voiced Austin songbird Kelly Willis remains on the margins of country music has to be one of the most baffling mysteries of our time. Aside from her fashion-model appearance, there’s just no denying she’s a captivating singer who in spite of commercial radio indifference continues pouring her heart into meaningful, well-crafted songs like those on her fabulous new Easy disc. Maybe that’s it. Forgettable fluff works better as between-commercial fodder for radio, and Willis invests too much of herself in her achingly beautiful songs. Radio’s loss is your gain.
