Since King Khan, aka Blacksnake of Montreal’s Spaceshits, first appeared with the Shrines in Hamburg, Germany, back in 99, they’ve put out three party-?rockin’ albums and a bunch of EPs that haven’t been picked up by a North American label. Maybe labels are concerned that their entire roster will be outclassed by the mighty Khan.
So props to Vice for the brilliant brainwave of releasing The Supreme Genius disc – a 16-?track best-of selection of King Khan’s finest frantic R&B rave-?ups, psychedelicized stomps and sleazy soul ballads. They also leaned on Jared Swilley for a sleeve endorsement to help sell the thing to Black Lips fans who have no idea what sort of sweaty foolishness they’re missing. It’s time to find out.
King Khan and the Shrines play a crazy two-?night stand at the Horseshoe July 23 and 24.
