KMFDM stomp into the Phoenix Tuesday (October 4). Rating: NN
According to the accompanying press release, Hau Ruck is "thought-provoking yet humorously ironic." Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really hear anything of the sort. KMFDM are all pissed off about shit as usual, but to me it sounds more like lots of trite, angry sentiments expressed in a prototypically childish manner - i.e., "Fucka fucka, die, muthafucka, bye-bye." I personally don't give the flyingest of fucks what Sascha Konietzko or his pals have to say about the Bush administration or world politics. If you do, and I'm not saying you shouldn't, you might as well buy this record. KMFDM add analog equipment for a retro sound, and some melodies are surprisingly poppy. At other times, decent beats and aggressive growls hark back to the good ol' dark industrial club days of the 80s when we all scowled at each other, then went home to fuck.
