KRS-ONE Spiritual Minded (KOCH) Rating: N Rating: N
So you thought KRS-One had fallen off because his last couple of records were wack? It turns out they were just a warm-up for his hilariously awful gospel rap -- sorry, "urban inspirational" -- opus Spiritual Minded. For some reason, the minds of otherwise intelligent artists seem to disengage at the first mention of God, and suddenly, once carefully crafted messages are replaced with moronic sloganeering punctuated with shouts of praise to the Almighty. KRS-One was preachy before he got religion, but now he's including biblical references with each tune for further study at home or place of worship. If that sounds troubling, wait till you hear the backing tracks awash with that cheesy DX-7 synth whoosh for the appropriate contemporary Christian feel. Ugh.
