Throughout Kylie Minogue's career, it's been obvious that what she does best is shiny vacant dance pop. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Her 11th album is full of potential hits (and not too many boring mid-tempo plodders).
Unfortunately, there's nothing quite as catchy here as Can't Get You Out Of My Head, although a few tracks come close. The production keeps hinting that she's aware of contemporary club trends, but she unwisely shies away from the edgier sound that could have pushed this to the next level.
She should have lifted a few up-and-coming producers from the underground to give her syrupy vocals some attitude. And it would have been in her best interest to humanize her image a bit by allowing the lyrics to reflect the difficult past few years of her life.
