Between the summer of 2002 and the winter of 2003, Lambchop main man Kurt Wagner assigned himself the task of composing a new tune each day, the best of which form a song cycle split Kill Bill-style over the two discs Aw C’mon and No,You C’mon. The Philly-soul-inspired strings are sweetly arranged and stylishly employed, yet the lush orchestrations can overwhelm Wagner’s front-porch homilies and serve to underscore his vocal limitations. He’s no Barry White. Also, over the two discs, the best bits get lost and could easily have fit on one disc.
