The Legendary Pink Dots have developed such a unique musical language that it's hard to evaluate it by traditional parameters. Like a cross between Syd Barrett and the Orb with a bit of industrial scariness thrown in, they often seem to be trying to make music that'll cause bad trips. They're not the most accessible band in the world, but over the past 25 years they've established a very dedicated following. Fans will be happy to hear they're as weird as ever, and the curious can be assured that this is a fairly gentle LPD album. It requires a certain amount of patience to get into, but once you adjust to their universe, there's lot to keep you interested.
The Dots play tonight (Thursday, June 15) at Lee's Palace.
