LES SIX

All right! Now that it’s still gonna be dark and gloomy out for a few months yet, let’s up the ante with the official soundtrack to mope-fest 2006 and new album by local retro-glam/goth/synth rockers Les Six, composed of former members of the equally brooding Stills and Tuuli. On the band’s debut, though, the music has some of the catchy melodicism of New Order and the Smiths, while comparisons to similar upstarts like the Killers will also be unavoidable. Occasionally, the music borders on repetitive, but anyone needing instant melancholy should be content with all the cheerless shoegazing here.

Les Six play the Bovine Saturday (February 11).
