LESLEY PIKE

LESLEY PIKE Night Visions (November Sky) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Ah, affairs of the heart – such a well of inspiration for so many musicians, including pretty-voiced chanteuse Lesley Pike. On Night Visions, Pike drags us through the romantic roller coaster with her: she pines for a lost lover now she’s telling someone not to wait around for her two songs later she pledges her heart to another dude. Yawn. Musically, Pike’s got the goods, falling somewhere between the lush cabaret theatrics of Sarah Slean and the airy-fairy tinklings of Tori Amos, but her content is cloying. I’m not averse to a good love song now and again, but 11 in a go is a little much.

Lesley Pike brings her broken heart to Hugh’s Room tonight (Thursday, May 15).
